First Presbyterian of Americus:

1. Marriage and Family

Experience Mark Gungor's hilarious, practical, and straight-forward advice about relationships through this 12-week-study. Laugh and learn as you explore the underlying dynamics of male/female relationships. These life-changing marriage truths are related in a way that both challenges and convicts, without being preachy, and confronts the harmful and destructive messages - from both the secular world and from churches - that have brought such devastation to marriages.

2. Faith and Current Events

The Spirituality of Science

In The Spirituality of Science: What Christians Can Learn From Scientists, part of the Q Society Room experience, your group will explore the relationship between science and faith, and you’ll discuss how all Christians (non-scientists included) should be mindful, rather than uninformed or even fearful, of these issues.

Following the example of the "Society Rooms" of the late 1600’s and the Clapham Circle of the early 1800’s, Q Society Rooms are designed to gather small groups of leaders to dialogue, learn, and work together to explore how to express the Christian faith in a post-Christian culture. In The Spirituality of Science: What Christians Can Learn From Scientists, host Gabe Lyons and DVD presenters Francis Collins, Catherine Crouch, and Louie Giglio explore the difficult questions of faith and science: Is the idea of God simply a delusion and religion the main obstacle to the advancement of civilization? Is science itself anti-faith? Does evolution threaten the very tenets of Christianity? Doesn’t the creation debate highlight the enmity between science and faith? Lyons and Norton Herbst then help you and the group explore—through short articles by noted authors, transcripts from Q Talks (included in the Leader’s DVD and Guide), five meetings to discuss important topics related to the overall theme, and thought-provoking questions—the relationship between science and faith, and you’ll discuss how all Christians (non-scientists included) should be mindful of these issues.

3. Young Adults

Crazy Love by Pastor Francis Chan

Francis Chan is the founding pastor of Cornerstone Church in Simi Valley, CA, starting the church in 1994. In May 2010, he left Cornerstone to work directly in mission with the poor locally and internationally.

His two books, Crazy Love, a New York Times Bestseller, and Forgotten God, hit several national bestseller lists. Chan has given all author royalties for Crazy Love to the Isaiah 58 Fund. He and his wife Lisa currently live in Southern California with their four children.

4. Covenant Adult Sunday School Class

This class consists of both longtime church members and newcomers, mostly in their 50s and above. They enjoy each other's company both in the class and in activities outside the class. Using biblically-based curriculum, the class seeks to identify how God calls us to express our faith today.
